The
Ballad of Johnny Appleseed tells the story of one
of my favorite American folk figures, John Chapman
aka. Johnny Appleseed. Recorded at home with acoustic
guitar, bass, and drum machine, the song is a tribute
to Johnny's benevolent spirit and his influence on
America's pioneer landscape. I remember talking about
this song to John Morgan at the 1201 club in 1995 or
96. As you can tell, it took me a while to finish it.
The accompanying "B-side" Alien Mind bears less explanation.
A chorus hook the could have been from an 80s soundtrack, and an inspired paranoid who may resemble one or two real-life or television characters in recent history. You'll have to decide for yourself who the protagonist may actually be.Copyright 2008 Scabbydisc Music (BMI)
