No Spill Blood: A Tribute to Oingo Boingo

Danny Elfman’s 80s band Oingo Boingo was a huge influence on my composing. I’m finally going to celebrate my appreciation by forming a cover band called “No Spill Blood” for a single set of Oingo Boingo songs on Oct 15th. At the same time, I decided to show my appreciation for Portland’s Ethos Music Center by making the show a fundraiser.

I took it a step further when I emailed Boingo’s longtime  bassist John Avila and found out that he was interested in joining us. We moved the show to a date that worked with his calendar, and now we’re in home stretch. Hope all of you Boingo-heads can join me!

Vernon School Song

Last year I helped the students of Portland’s Vernon Elementary School write and record their own school theme song. Then Kyle Delamarter — one of the parents — took it upon himself to shoot and edit this music video featuring the choir and some of the students. I think he did an amazing job, and so did the kids!

I recorded the song in my home studio with the help of Thom Sullivan on drums, and Jeff Langston on bass. Jeff Saltzman mixed the song. The version in this video is unmastered, so it’s a bit on the quiet side.
